A blue light emitting silicate phosphor and a light emitting device employing the same are provided to improve the color reproducibility of a display unit by securing excellent color purity and luminance characteristics. A light emitting device comprises a blue light emitting silicate phosphor represented by the formula 1 of (Sr_xBa_y)Mg_aSi_bO_8:Eu_z. Eu^(2+) ions are excited with the excitation wavelength. In the formula 1, the x, y, z, a and b satisfy the inequality of 0.5<=x<=1.5, 1.5<=y<=2.5, 2.9<=x + y<=3.4, 0.01 < z < 0.23, 0.99 <= a <= 1.1 and 1.9 <= b <= 2.1. The center of the wavelength is in a range of 420-450 nm. The light emitting device contains the blue light emitting silicate phosphor and discharge gas sealed in a sealer. |
