The method involves measuring amplitude and phase of voltage on a monophase power supply catenary (1). An alternative voltage is generated in a secondary winding (6a) of a transformer (3) to produce an alternative voltage of the amplitude and phase in a primary winding (4) of the transformer, where the alternative voltage in the winding (4) is equal to the amplitude and the phase of the voltage on the catenary. A circuit breaker (5) is closed when the alternative voltage produced in the winding (4) is equal to the amplitude and the phase of the voltage on the catenary. An independent claim is also included for a transformer connecting device comprising a voltage amplitude and phase measuring unit.
