EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine for giving quick temperature rise to an exhaust gas purifying catalyst while feeding reformed fuel reformed by a small oxidation catalyst from a fuel supply valve into the exhaust gas purifying catalyst.

SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13 having an oxidative function is arranged in an engine exhaust passage, and a small oxidation catalyst 14 and the fuel supply valve for supplying fuel to the small-sized oxidation catalyst 14 are arranged in the engine exhaust passage on the upstream side of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13. The amount of fuel required for preventing the thermal deterioration of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13 is intermittently injected from a fuel injection valve 15 continuously during the operation of the engine.
