PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly manage a file based on information being associated with the file. SOLUTION: The file management method includes the steps of: retrieving a desired file 3i from an electronic file group 3i (S1); and, if the information to indicate the file 3i is detected and its content is referred to, generating information indicating that a content of the desired file 3i is referred to, and recording that information on a historical information file 4i, which corresponds to the required electronic file 3i (S3-S5), every time a desired file 3i is detected as a result of retrieval (S2). Consequently, a content of the historical information file 4i includes history information or latest information that the corresponding electronic file 3i is detected by retrieval or that the detected content is referred to. Accordingly, by managing the electronic file 3i based on the content recorded in the history information file 4i, a file management can be more properly implemented in comparison to the file management based only on the information for updating the electronic file 3i as before.
