PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method (suitable for large scale production) for producing acid fluorides. SOLUTION: The acid fluorides are suitably produced by causing carboxylic acids to react with sulfuryl fluoride (SO<SB>2</SB>F<SB>2</SB>), trifluoromethanesulfonyl fluoride (CF<SB>3</SB>SO<SB>2</SB>F) or perfluorobutanesulfonyl fluoride (C<SB>4</SB>F<SB>9</SB>SO<SB>2</SB>F) in the presence of an organic base. Furthermore, recovery by distillation of the aimed product from the reaction liquid after the completion of the reaction containing acid fluorides as a suitable post treatment operation permits efficient desalting without causing hydrolysis of the acid fluorides and very simple operability thereby enabling high productivity.
