PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smooth the rising of a damping force for a stroke of a piston rod by decelerating a free piston at a movable limit in a hydraulic shock absorber. SOLUTION: In the damping force adjusting structure of the hydraulic shock absorber 10, the structure is configured to include an oil lock means 40 which regulates the stroke end of the free piston 36 sliding by hydraulic pressure in a first pressure chamber 31A in fluid communication with one of oil chambers 12A.
