PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper quality improver that can inhibit a coating liquid from being absorbed and produce a paper having a high bulkiness because as one of the problems in the production of a bulky paper by use of a bulking agent, there is a tendency of an increase in the amount of a coating liquid absorbed in the step of applying a coating liquid to the surface of paper immediately after a dryer such as after passing through a predryer or the like and especially the absorption of liquid in the size pressing step as the step of applying a coating liquid becomes a problem. SOLUTION: The paper quality improver is a reaction product produced by making (a) an amine compound composed mainly of a polyalkylene polyamine react with (b) a 12-40C saturated fatty acid to produce an amide compound and further making the resulting amide compound react with (c) epichlorohydrin wherein the reaction product has an organochlorine content of not less than 5 (mgKOH/g).
