<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the configuration of an element for converting a polarization state as a common optical component and to improve a yield, in an optical system of an optical pickup for performing recording and playback to a plurality of kinds of optical disks by using three kinds of use wavelength and one common objective lens. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup includes: a first emitting part for emitting an optical beam of a first wavelength; a second emitting part for emitting an optical beam of a second wavelength; a third emitting part for emitting an optical beam of a third wavelength; a beam splitter 37 for synthesizing optical beams emitted from the first to third emitting parts to one optical path; a converging optical device 36 for converging the optical beams of the first to third wavelengths synthesized to the optical path on signal recording surfaces of respectively corresponding optical disks; and a retarder provided between the beam splitter 37 and the converging optical device 36, wherein the optical beams of a first wavelength are converged on a signal recording surface of an optical disk corresponding in the state of circularly polarized light, and the optical beams of second and third wavelengths are converged on a signal recording surface of an optical disk corresponding in the state of elliptically polarized light or linearly polarized light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
