PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain speed detection device and a chain speed detection method capable of securely detecting the speed of a chain. SOLUTION: The chain speed detection device 15 is provided with a pair of bases 25, 25 and a movable body 27 supported by the bases 25, 25 via a support shaft 26. A pulse sensor which is not shown in the Fig. is held by the movable body 27, and is arranged in the proximity to an end part of the chain related to the chain width direction Z. The pulse sensor detects change in projections/recesses in the end part of the chain, and outputs pulses correlated with the speed of the chain. The movable body 27 is supported by the pair of bases 25, 25 so as to enable displacement following change in the attitude of the chain. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
