Provided is a linear motor including a magnetic body and an armature. The linear motor generates a force which causes a relative displacement in a predetermined direction by interaction between magnetic fluxes generated between the armature and the magnetic body when power is supplied to the armature. The linear motor includes: a base plate for setting the displacement direction on a base surface; a movable unit attached to the base plate in such a manner that the movable unit can perform a reciprocal displacement in the displacement direction relatively to the base plate; a moving part which is arranged on one end face of the movable unit in the width direction of the base surface which orthogonally intersects the displacement direction and is formed on one of the magnetic body and the armature; and a stator which is arranged on the base surface of the base plate so as to oppose from one end to the other end in the aforementioned width direction with respect to the moving part and is formed on the other of the magnetic body and the armature in the displacement direction.
