Process for utilizing aluminium in waste materials, in particular in association with other materials, having the following steps: - the waste materials are comminuted and metals and/or metal composite material is substantially freed from adhering material, - the material mixture is subsequently separated according to nonferrous metal parts and remaining material, - the nonferrous metal-comprising material is reacted in a reactor with sodium hydroxide solution, wherein the exiting hydrogen is immediately used for electricity generation.
