PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermionic cathode fluorescent lamp of low cost and long life. SOLUTION: The lamp is provided with a discharge tube 1, a discharge medium sealed in the discharge tube 1, a phosphor layer 2 formed on an inner wall face of the discharge tube 1, and electrode coils 31 with a thermal electron emission substance applied and arranged at either side of the discharge tube 1. The discharge tube 1 is provided with a light-emitting part 11 with a cross-section circular shape, and an electrode-coil housing part 12 with a cross-section flat shape at either end of the former.
