PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holographic recording compound that is suited to digital volume holography, having high sensitivity and a large recording capacity, in recording with a light of short wavelength. SOLUTION: The holographic recording compound is represented by general formula (I). In the formula (I), R<SP>1</SP>denotes a hydrogen atom or a substituent, having a Hammett valueσp which is equal to or greater than -0.30; each of R<SP>2</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>, independently denotes a hydrogen atom or a substituent; each of A and B independently denotes a substituent; and at least one of R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>, A and B contains a polymerizable group.
