PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to avoid a situation that a driver is confused and vehicle behavior becomes unstable. SOLUTION: This collision damage reducing device comprises a detection period calculating means 16 calculating a period of continuously detecting an obstacle having the possibility of colliding with the vehicle as a detection continuous periodΣT<SB>D</SB>, a monitoring object recognizing means 17 determining whether or not to treat the obstacle as a monitoring object in response to the detection continuous periodΣT<SB>D</SB>and to treat the obstacle as an operation object of accessories 12 and 13, a reliability index setting means 18 setting a reliability index R by determining that there is the possibility of colliding with the obstacle when the detection continuous periodΣT<SB>D</SB>becomes larger than a predetermined detection period threshold value T<SB>Dth1'</SB>, T<SB>Dth2'</SB>and T<SB>Dth3</SB>, and an attentiveness index setting means 32 setting an attentiveness index AL of reducing as the attentiveness of the driver is decreased, and a detection period threshold value correction means 33 increasingly correcting the detection period threshold value T<SB>Dth1'</SB>, T<SB>Dth2'</SB>and T<SB>Dth3</SB>as the attention power index AL reduces.
