<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, enabling to prevent the thermal deterioration of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13 having an oxidative function is arranged in an engine exhaust passage, and a small oxidation catalyst 14 and a fuel supply valve for supplying fuel to the small oxidation catalyst 14 are arranged in the engine exhaust passage on the upstream side of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13. When supplying the fuel from the fuel supply valve 15 to the small oxidation catalyst 14, part of the supply fuel flows through the side of the small oxidation catalyst 14 into the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13 instead of the small oxidation catalyst 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
