A magnetic bumper guard (10), the guard (10) being constructed such that it may be magnetically mounted onto a structural member (99) to be protected, such as the corner, post, rail or leg of a structure composed of a suitable metal, the guard (10) having a rear channel or slot (13) bounded by a pair of side flanges (12), a magnet-receiving recess (16) positioned within the rear channel (13), a hollow interior (14), a rounded or curved forward wall (11), and a magnet(21), whereby frontal force is absorbed by the guard (10) and lateral or angular forces cause the guard (10) to disengage from the structural member (99), thereby dissipating the force.
