An object of the present invention is a drainage device for draining a material web, particularly a tissue web, in a paper machine, which is disposed downstream of a forming unit (16) and upstream of a thermal drying apparatus (11). The drainage device comprises a press roll (1), around which a press belt (3) is wrapped. To this end, the material web is guided on a water-absorbing belt (4) or a wire (10) into the drainage device. The water-absorbing belt (4) is disposed in the drainage device between the material web (5) and the press belt. An object of the present invention is also a drainage method, which is carried out with the drainage device.
