PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of controlling lighting corresponding to a backlight condition. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus capable of photographing a moving picture is provided. The imaging apparatus has: a light emission section capable of lighting an object; a photometry section for detecting a luminance level of the object; a backlight determination section for determining the backlight condition, based on the luminance level of the object; and a light emission control section for controlling the light emission section to illuminate the object with light, when the backlight determination section determines that it is the backlight condition.
