PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that data access is limited during the head of an HDD is retreated and processing of an image forming apparatus is delayed, in such control that the head of the HDD is retreated after a movable unit starts movement and the head of the HDD is restored when the movable unit returns to its original position. SOLUTION: An acceleration detection part 13 for detecting the acceleration of a movable unit is disposed in the image forming apparatus having the HDD. A control unit 11 obtains the acceleration from the acceleration detection part 13, calculates the current speed and position of the movable unit on the basis of the obtained acceleration, calculates a remaining movable distance on the basis of the calculated current position and the maximum movable distance of the movable unit, calculates the estimated reaching speed of the movable unit when reaching the remaining movable distance on the basis of the current acceleration and the current speed of the movable unit, retreats the HDD 12 when the estimated reaching speed is equal to or more than a threshold value, and restores the HDD 12 when the current acceleration and the current speed of the movable unit are both 0.
