<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical head device which reduces crosstalk during reproduction of a multilayer optical disk. <P>SOLUTION: The optical head device reflects light emitted from a light source on the information recording layer of an optical disk and guides it to a light detector. In this case, an area-divided polarizing element is arranged in the optical path from the optical disk to the light detector. The three areas, which divides the polarizing element, have functions to change the polarizing states of incident light for each area. The polarizing states of the light emitted from a first outermost area and light emitted from a second innermost area cross nearly at right angles each other, and the polarizing state of a third area between the first area and the third area exists between the orthogonal directions, thus stray light which may cause cross-talk and comes from a layer different from the information recording layer, is reduced at the light detector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
