PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lash adjuster for an adjusting screw capable of preventing it from turning and moving in the push-in direction when a turn of a cam applies a force of push-in direction to the adjusting screw. SOLUTION: The lash adjuster 1 to support an arm 7 by the protruding end 19 of the adjusting screw 15 from a housing 12, is provided with cylindrical housing 12 inserted into an accommodation hole 11 provided on the top surface of a cylinder head 2, the adjusting screw 15 having a male thread 14 formed at the outer periphery thereof and engaged with a female thread 13 formed at the inner surface of the housing 12, and a return spring 17 to energize the adjusting screw 15 in such a direction as protruding upward from the housing 12, wherein the surface of the protruding end 19 of the adjusting screw 15 is formed of a substance not making reaction with additives to the oil containing organic molybdenum.
