PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional optical module having no optical crosstalk by establishing such an arrangement that a photo diode (PD) is hard to receive the wavelength signal light emitted from a laser diode (LD). SOLUTION: The bidirectional optical module includes a light emitting element 4 for emitting transmitting light, a light receiving element 5 for receiving reception light, and a package 2 wherein a cap 8 with an optical transmitting window is sealed on a stem 3 mounting a wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing filter 6. The light receiving element 5 is put in a recessed part 12 on the upper surface of the stem so that the light receiving surface of the light receiving element 5 may not be projected from the upper surface of the stem 3. The sidewall of the recessed part 12 blocks stray light generating in the package from entering the light receiving surface of the light receiving element. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
