PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carrier particles for a developer, a developer and an image forming apparatus, in which durability of a coating layer of the carrier particle can be improved and lubricating property of the carrier particles can be improved, and charging characteristics to toner particles can be improved. SOLUTION: The carrier particles contain a core material containing magnetic particles and a coating layer formed on a surface of the core material, and the coating layer contains diamond fine particles or diamond-like carbon exposed on a surface of the coating layer.
