PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an observing apparatus that prevents a moving operation for a view field from contradicting the control of view field position adjustment. SOLUTION: An optical microscope 10 includes: a specimen stage 12; an imaging optical system including an objective lens 14 and an imaging lens 18; and an objective stage 16 supporting the objective lens 14. The objective stage 16 can be moved along X and Y axes perpendicular to the optical axis of the objective lens 14 in order to perform visual servo. The specimen stage 12 is able to move the specimen S along the X and Y axes in order to move an area being observed. The observing apparatus 100 also includes: a stage operating device 52 for moving the specimen stage 12; and a visual servo switch 54. A control section 60 includes: a view field position adjusting section 62 that adjusts the view field position of the optical microscope 10 in order to perform the visual serveo; and an excluding drive control section 64 that exclusively controls the drive of the specimen stage 12 and the drive of the objective stage 16.
