Disclosed is an electrolytic method that can minimize the wear of an electrode and can efficiently electrolyze a sulfuric acid solution or the like. The electrolytic method comprises feeding an electrolysis solution into an electrolysis cell comprising an anode and a cathode as at least one pair of electrodes and energizing the electrodes to electrolyze the electrolysis solution. In the electrolytic method, the electrolysis is carried out in such a state that the viscosity of the electrolysis solution is brought to a range depending upon current density when the energization is performed. When the current density is not more than 50 A/dm2, the viscosity of a sulfuric acid solution as an electrolysis solution is brought to not more than 10 cP; when the current density is more than 50 A/dm2 and not more than 75 A/dm2, the viscosity of a sulfuric acid solution is brought to not more than 8 cP; and when the current density is more than 75 A/dm2 and not more than 100 A/dm2, the viscosity of a sulfuric acid solution is brought to not more than 6 cP. In particular, when a highly concentrated sulfuric acid solution is electrolyzed using diamond electrodes at a high current density, the wear of the electrodes can be reduced and electrolysis can be performed with a high efficiency. |
