The method involves monitoring an electrical variable (I), which changes depending on a mechanical effect on a housing (2) of an anti-theft device (1), to detect a manipulation attempt of the anti-theft device by evaluating the electrical variable. Current flowing through a foil (13) e.g. pressure sensitive foil, and electric cable (14) is evaluated as the electrical variable. The housing is provided with a pressure-sensitive element and the electric cable, which is disconnected by the mechanical effect on the housing. An independent claim is also included for an anti-theft device for a vehicle, comprising a control device.
