Embodiments related to the identification of objects via optically readable tags. One disclosed embodi-ment comprises an optically readable tag having a data re-gion comprising a two-dimensional array of optically con-trasting data features, one or more orientation features lo-cated on the tag outside of the data region, and a tracking feature located outside of the data region and having a larg-er size than the orientation features and the data features.
