<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further miniaturize a gas sensor. <P>SOLUTION: This gas sensor element 10 is equipped with a porous first electrode layer 20 and a porous second electrode layer 22, both of which are provided so as to hold an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte layer, with the first shielding layer 24 having gas-shielding properties and formed so as to cover the outside main surface 30 of the first electrode layer 20, and the second shielding layer 26 having gas-shielding properties formed so as to cover the second electrode layer 22 to shield the second electrode layer 22, with respect to a gas to be measured when used.
