PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing recycled 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid from 6-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-2-naphthoic acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing recycled 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid comprises reacting 6-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-2-naphthoic acid with one or more species of acids selected from the group consisting of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid in water at a temperature of 150 to 250°C.
