In a PON system, a communication control method used in performing a discovery procedure which is a procedure for detecting an ONU to which an OLT (1) is newly connected comprises a transmission enable signal transmitting step in which the OLT (1) transmits a transmission enable signal for discovery including mask information for specifying the individual number of the ONU permitting a response and the matching detection target bit of the individual number and a registration request signal transmitting step in which the ONU before registration in the OLT (1) compares the matching detection target bit of the individual number specified by the mask information with its own individual number on the basis of the received transmission enable signal and, if they are matched, transmits a registration request signal to the OLT (1).
