The present invention relates to a W/O/W emulsion composition that is excellent in emulsification stability, and exhibits a good spreadability over skins and imparts a good wet feel upon use without stickiness and oiliness; a detergent composition containing a W/O/W emulsion which is excellent in touch feel after washing without deterioration in washing performance; and processes for producing these compositions. According to the present invention, there are provided a W/O/W emulsion composition including a polysaccharide derivative containing in a side chain thereof, a group represented by the formula (1): <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?>-(OX)n-E1-R (1);<?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?> a detergent composition containing the W/O/W emulsion; and process for producing these composition.
