PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for determining ventilation device setting which includes end expiratory pressure setting, pressure swing, resistive unloading, and target ventilation for providing ventilatory support based on generalized patient ventilation characteristics and/or disease classification. SOLUTION: This apparatus is programmed with instructions to accomplish a method interactively by encouraging a user/doctor to enter during setup and calculating setting based on a measured value or input responses. Preassigned value associated with ventilation characteristics or disease classification is combined with a base pressure value or the measured value and provides a patient with customized setting or adjustment in order to determine a pressure level for providing ventilatory support.
