PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a mixture of 2-(1-hydroxyalkyl)cycloalkanone which is an objective compound, and an alkylidenecycloalkanone which is its dehydrated material, in a very high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the mixture of 2-(1-hydroxyalkyl)cycloalkanone and alkylidenecycloalkanone by reacting a cycloalkanone with an alkylaldehyde is provided by having the following process and using 0.6 to 3.5 mol% use amount of pyrrolidine to the use amount of the alkylaldehyde. Process (I): The process of reacting the cycloalkanone with the alkylaldehyde in the presence of an acidic compound and pyrrolidine and in the presence or absence of water under a condition at 60 to 110°C.
