摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic-wave generating device capable of propagating a terahertz wave with improved energetic efficiency to a direction to be propagated. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission line for propagating a terahertz wave generated based on the carriers generated in a carrier generation layer 101 includes a first region 106 and a second region 107. The first region 106 is a region where the terahertz wave propagates in a first direction 110. The second region 107 has an impedance different from that of the first region 106, and is a region which forms a reflection interface 108 with respect to a terahertz wave which propagates opposite to the first direction 110. The transmission line is formed so that the distance from an irradiation position 109 at which the carrier generation layer 101 is irradiated with light to the reflection interface 108 is smaller than D, where D is the distance converted from a half width of the time waveform of a terahertz wave which propagates in the first direction 110 without passing through the reflection interface 108. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p>
