The device has a magnetizing device (2a) which is moved between an active position and a passive position. The magnetizing device comprises a magnetized element (10a,11a,12,13) and a permanent magnet. The permanent magnet and the magnetized element are displaced relative to each other, such that an outer magnetic field strength of the magnetizing device is changed between a minimal value and a maximal value. The minimal value is assigned to the passive position and the maximal value is assigned to the active position. An independent claim is included for a method for a magnaflux test of a workpiece with a device.
