<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a preliminary light emission condition to perform optimum preliminary light emission for preventing a red-eye phenomenon in stroboscopic photography. <P>SOLUTION: In preliminary light emission to be performed in the stroboscopic photography, optimum preliminary light emission control for preventing a red-eye phenomenon is performed. In the preliminary light emission control, the preliminary light emission condition to perform the preliminary light emission is set according to a case where a human face is included in a subject, whether the subject is in a backlight state or a front-light state and a distance between the subject and the imaging apparatus, and the preliminary light emission is performed under the set preliminary light emission condition.
