摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, enabling to give quick temperature rise to an exhaust gas purifying catalyst by supplying a required amount of fuel from a fuel supply valve. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13 having an oxidative function is arranged in an engine exhaust passage, and a small oxidation catalyst 14 and the fuel supply valve for supplying fuel to the small oxidation catalyst 14 are arranged in the engine exhaust passage on the upstream side of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13. When activating the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13, the small oxidation catalyst 14 is heated by supplying the fuel from a fuel injection valve 15. When giving further temperature rise to the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 13, the greater amount of fuel is supplied from the fuel supply valve 15 and reformed fuel is exhausted from the small oxidation catalyst 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
