PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spinning reel for fishing capable of suppressing excessive increase of number of revolutions of a rotor even when inadequate release operation of fishline was carried out. SOLUTION: In the spinning reel for fishing, a bail arm mechanism 27 enables inversion between a fishline-winding position, and a fishline-releasing position and a reverse-preventing mechanism 31 enables changeover between an ON position for permitting positive rotation of a rotor 15 to a direction for winding the fishline and inhibiting reverse rotation of the rotor 15 at the same time and an OFF position for permitting positive/reverse rotation of the rotor 15, and a braking mechanism imparts braking force to the rotor 15 when the rotor 15 is at least reversely rotated in a state in which the reverse prevention mechanism 31 is changed over to the OFF position and releases provision of braking force to the rotor 15 when the reverse-preventing mechanism 31 was changed over to the ON position.
