A support head is constructed from first and second support sections and a base. The first and second support sections are placed facing each other across a spindle unit with the axis of the support head aligned with the rotation axis of a spindle. The first and second support sections include respective support shafts to the end faces of which the spindle unit is fixed. The base supports the first and second support sections. The first and sections are integral with a housing formed as a separate body from the base and in which the support shafts are assembled. The housing is mounted on the base with first screw members which are screwed into the base and operable from the outside. The spindle unit is mounted on the support shafts with second screw members which are screwed into the support shafts and operable from the outside.
