<p>A system and method for replacing existing media streams of a streaming session with alternative media streams, without tearing down the RTSP session and providing only a minimal delay. In various embodiments of the present invention, the client indicates to the server that it wishes to replace a media stream that it is currently consuming with another stream by sending a switch command to the streaming server, with the switch command indicating the old media stream and the new media stream. A feature is also provided for enabling the receiver to mute and unmute a single media stream. A client may query the server to find out whether fast channel switching is supported by the server.</p> |
