A surface light source device and a backlight unit including the same are provided to simplify a manufacturing process by connecting a first electrode and a second electrode to one clip-type power source connecting unit at the same time. A light source body(110) includes a first substrate(120) and a second substrate(130). The first substrate and the second substrate are formed by a transparent glass substrate. The first substrate is faced with the second substrate. A plurality of discharge channels(140) is formed on the first substrate. The second substrate is formed into a flat shape. An edge of the first substrate and the second substrate is bonded by a sealing member of frit. A phosphor layer is coated on an inner surface of the discharge channel formed on the first substrate.
