A method for measuring SOC of a battery in battery management system and an apparatus thereof are provided to measure a SOC(State Of Charge based on current) easily an accurately by applying a simple equivalent circuit model and an adaptive digital filter. A current, voltage, a temperature of battery are measured(S401), and a SOCi(State Of Charge based on current) is calculated after current data is add(S402). An electromotive force is calculated by using current data, and the equivalent circuit model for battery, and voltage data(S405). The SOCv(State Of Charge based on voltage) is calculated by taking advantage of temperature data and electromotive force. The SOC of battery is set up by using at least one of SOCi and SOCv(S410).
