860,926. Motor vehicle axles. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. June 10, 1959 [June 21, 1958], No. 19895/59. Class 79(4). A vehicle axle 10 carrying independently suspended wheels is connected by elastic means to the frame 12 and by further means to bearing points situated on the frame at a different height from the elastic means and at a distance behind or forward of the axle, the further means being subject only to the forces at the points of connection with the axle and with the frame. The axle 10 is fastened by soft rubber elements 11 to the vehicle frame 12 and is connected to the wheels by sprung links 13, 14. A plate 17 stiffened by corrugations 16 is secured to the axle 10 and pivotally connected by a pair of bolts 19 to a frame cross member 21. The plate 17 may be replaced by a pair of arms clamped between rubber discs mounted on bolts welded to the frame cross member. The arms may alternatively be connected to the frame cross member by universal joints and be inclined to each other to have a common universal connection with the axle 10. The plate 17 may serve as a cover for other parts, such as the sump, of the vehicle. |
