666,841. Control systems for several motors. WANNER, M. Jan. 3, 1946. [May 24, 1945] No. 300/46. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 13, 1946] Class 38 (iii). A variable speed drive for an electrically propelled vehicle or ship comprises two or more axles or shafts 6, 10, each driven by a pair of induction motors 3, 4 or 7, 8 through a differential gear 5 or 9, a switching system being provided whereby the several motors may be connected to the supply or together in different ways to obtain different speeds. Arrangements may also be provided to block or reverse one motor of each shaft. The motors are preferably of the multiphase type, being powered either by a generating set carried.by the vehicle or, as shown, by a phase transformer 2 energized from a single phase contact line. The two motors of each shaft may have different pole numbers. Fine speed control may be effected by frequency variation of the supply. |
