A barrier movement operator controls movement of a moveable barrier such as opening and closing garage door (fig 1, 16). It has a head unit 24, including a chassis 82, and closely mounted light emitting elements such as light emitting diodes 102 in thermal communication with a heat sink 100 and with the chassis of the barrier operator to dissipate thermal energy. A controller controls the head unit and provides power to light emitting elements. The light emitting elements may further include a light diffuser 104 mounted below the light emitters, which can be disposed around three sides of the chassis, reflectors (fig 5, 126) and a lens (fig 7, 162). The light emitters can generate a cone of light beams in an arc on a lower surface. The use of plural light emitters such as LEDs 102 eliminates the need for a socket to allow incandescent lamps to be changed and provides sufficient light, while the heat is dissipated by the chassis of the barrier operator. |
