The invention relates to a data processing apparatus which applies orthogonal transformations to first and second vectors based on the value of their inner product. The apparatus comprises an array of processing elements which iteratively apply plane rotations to pairs of corresponding components of the first and second vectors, and a control element which calculates their inner product and provides a control signal to the array based upon it. The control signal is used by the processor array to indicate the sense of each of a succession of diminishing rotations to be performed on the vectors. Further described is a cross coupled CORDIC processing element which operates on signals representing complex data in successive real and imaginary rotation operations. |
