<p>The method involves dividing an image which is to be compressed into multiple image sections. An image type is determined as an image type with less than a predetermined number of colors. Another image type is determined as an image type with more than a predetermined another number of colors. The number of colors is determined within each image section. Each image section is allocated to former or later image type, depending on the number of colors within respective image section. The image data of all image sections of the latter image type is compressed using another compression method. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data processing device, which is adapted to carry out the method for compressing image data (2) a program compressing a machine readable instructions to carry out the method for compressing image data (3) a memory medium with the machine readable program.</p> |
