A method for providing a part of a screen displayed in a display apparatus as a GUI through an electronic device and the electronic device using the same are provided to supply a part of a screen displayed in a display device to a user as a GUI through another display, thereby enabling the user to conveniently select a desired GUI item. A communication unit(180) is connected to the external device for communication. A controller(170) transfers a user command about an external device to the external device. The controller controls a part of a screen displayed in the external device to displayed on a display(140). GUI-items which the user can choose are included in a part of the screen. The display is a touch screen.
