A method for transceiving packet data in a mobile communication system and a device therefor are provided to transmit a portion of ACK information through 4 bits, thereby quickly abandoning unnecessary packets stored in a retransmission buffer. Packet data is generated. The number of upper layer packets(534) which constitute the packet data is confirmed, and a header is configured according to the confirmed results. If length indicators and expansion bit phases included in the header are odd-numbered, a portion of ACK information is inserted into a final one of the length indicators to configure the header. The configured header is inserted into the generated packet data, and the packet data is transmitted. Packet data having lower serial numbers than the nearest serial numbers are discarded.
