A key input device and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to simply input desired information by using directional keys and input keys after setting up a virtual key block on a virtual keyboard. A plurality of directional keys(14a-14d) move a cursor in a virtual keyboard block of a virtual keyboard. The directional keys select virtual keys included in the virtual key block, and move the cursor to a specific virtual key in the state of being pressed. An input key(16) inputs information corresponding to the selected virtual key. A block selecting key(18) selects the virtual keyboard block on the virtual keyboard.
